Musician Bio

THandySylvia D'Avanzo

Violinist, Sylvia D'Avanzo is a busy New York freelancer. She has played with Orchestra of St Luke's, American Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, American Ballet Theater Orchestra, San Francisco Ballet, Phoenix Symphony and the Philharmonia Hungarica. She is also a member of the OMNI Emsemble, a chamber music group in residence at the Brooklyn Conservatory. As a Broadway Concertmaster, she has performed in over 30 Broadway productions, including Sunset Boulevard, the Light in the Piazza, Sunday in the Park with George and in the current Roundabout Theater revival of Pal Joey.

Sylvia has appeared on stage and on tour with many popular artists such as Barbra Streisand, Bjork, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Diana Ross and P-Diddy. Ms D'Avanzo completed a Bachelor of Music at Mannes College of Music and a Masters of Music at Yale School of Music. She has participated in the Aspen, Waterloo, Evian, Yale/Norfolk and Tanglewood music festivals. Her major violin studies were with Joyce Robbins, Paul Kantor and Sally Thomas. She has resided in Park Slope, Brooklyn for 10 fabulous years.

As a young violinist in Rhode Island, Sylvia spent many of her developing years as a member of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras, the Rhode Island College Orchestra and the Greater Boston Youth Symphony. Sylvia, born and raised in Providence, is a graduate of Classical High School.
